A triptych—one image split across three panels—is one of the most striking ways to fill a wall. Done well, it creates a sense of scale and movement that a single print can't match. Here's how to style one in every room of your home.
What is a triptych?
A triptych is a single artwork divided across three separate panels, hung side by side. The eye reads the panels as one continuous image, which draws attention across the wall and makes the space feel larger and more considered. Explore our full Triptychs Collection to see the format in action.
How to hang a triptych
- Spacing: Keep a consistent 5–8cm gap between each panel so the image reads as one piece.
- Height: Centre the middle of the artwork at roughly 145–150cm from the floor—eye level for most people.
- Alignment: Use a spirit level and measure twice. A single crooked panel throws off the whole set.
- Width: The full triptych should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it (sofa, bed, or sideboard).
Styling by room
Living room
A triptych above the sofa is a classic focal point. Choose bold, coloursplash pieces that echo an accent colour in your cushions or rug. Our Wanderlust travel prints and Botanical prints work beautifully in shared spaces.
Bedroom
Above the headboard, opt for calmer tones. Pieces from our Wellness & Mindfulness Collection bring a restful mood to the room.
Hallway & stairwell
Long, narrow walls are made for triptychs. A landscape or coastal set carries the eye down the hallway—browse our Nautical & Coastal Collection.
Choosing the right size
For a wall behind a standard three-seat sofa, aim for a combined width of around 120–150cm. Measure your wall before ordering, and leave breathing room on either side so the piece doesn't feel cramped.
